Zakat Foundation of America is an international charity which aims to foster charitable giving and help generous and caring people reach out to those in need with direct aid. We strive to bridge the gap between our financially privileged donors and our beneficiaries in financial need, as we believe that the first group has responsibilities toward the second.
ZF is dedicated to alleviating the immediate needs of the poorest communities by providing food, shelter, health care and by delivering relief in emergencies. ZF also provides education and training in order to equip people with the skills to help themselves.
ZF pursues this mission with compassion and strict standards of efficiency and accountability.

Is Zakat Foundation recognized by the US government as a charity organization?
Yes, Zakat Foundation is recognized and registered under 501 (c) (3) as a non-profit charity organization; therefore all donations donated to The Zakat Foundation are tax exempt. We are registered in Illinois as The Zakat Foundation of America. Our Tax ID is 36-44 76244
How much of your donations are spent for operating costs?
Here at The Zakat Foundation of America, we do our best in keeping the operating overhead costs as low as possible. Currently our average is 11%. However, with your help and generous donations, we can lower this figure inshallah.
How long has Zakat Foundation been operating?
Zakat Foundation was founded in July of 2001. We actively started our operation in November 2001. Since then, our operation has helped the poor and needy in twenty different countries.
What percentages of donations goes for the orphans?
Zakat Foundation does not take any overhead cost from the money donated for orphan sponsorship. We are sponsoring over 600 orphans.
How can we know that orphan is receiving the money?
It is very simple. If you like, you can contact through us the orphan you sponsored (This will bring extra work for us, but possible). Or you can even visit the orphan that you are sponsoring.
How can I help?
You can also invite us to speak at your community in order for us to introduce our organization. You can also distribute our newsletter and flyers at your local Mosque or School or raising funds for our projects from your community. Please contact us for more information.
Can I adopt an orphan through Zakat Foundation?
No. We are sorry, but we do not offer this type of service (at least not at the moment!). There are few reasons for this; First of all, taking a vulnerable child from his/her home and family is not in the best interest for the child. Keeping the child in his/her habitat is the best for the child and also much cheaper than bringing a child here. Second, the procedure of adopting a child is very complicated and costly.
How does Zakat Foundation transfer money overseas to the needy?
Money is sent from our account in the USA to either our own account in the respective country or to an account of one of our partners in that respective country. At that point, the money is distributed and used under our supervision.
