We believe that education is a human right. Children are born into this world as eager learners and it is our duty to provide them with every opportunity for education. UNICEF estimates that over 120 million children worldwide are not receiving an education, a majority of which are young girls. In the 48 nations identified as impoverished by the UN there is a tragic level of illiteracy which often shows a great slant in the female population. It is our belief at The Zakat Foundation that improving education and literacy in impoverished nations is a key stage toward helping the people survive in this growing world.

It is our responsibility to give individuals the tools and opportunities needed to improve their lives through a solid education. Our educational programs consist of education for young children as well as widowed or destitute women. The goals of this education are clear; to prevent future poverty by ensuring that people have the knowledge and ability to obtain better jobs or work more effectively in the community.

Rumi International School
Along the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan are large Afghan refugee camps and many poor Pakistani communities, the Rumi school exists to help children there gain an education that most of their parents never had.

School in Turkey
In Southeastern Turkey many children live in poor conditions with long journeys to find a school, we have provided them with one close to their homes.

Fu-Xing School in China
In the Gansu province of China, where the oldest Muslim community in Asia exists, we have funded the only Muslim high school of the region.

Sewing School in Ghana
In order to strengthen the education of young women in Ghana, we have established a nationally recognized vocational school.

Backpack Project “To Kids, From Kids with Love”
We encourage kids in America to get involved with charity in this fun, yet important program to provide the right tools of learning to kids all over the world.

Muslim-American Scholarships
We have currently sponsored 15 upcoming Imams in the United States.

School in Ethiopia
Partnering with ICO, a completely accredited school is well under construction in this poorest of nations.

Inmate Enlightenment
For our brothers and sisters behind bars in the prisons of the United States we send books to increase their understanding of Islam.

School in India
Since 2003 children in the Nizamuddin slums of New Delhi have had a school funded by Zakat Foundation.
