When the massive waves pulled back from the Tsunami of 2004, the remains of cities and lives were left in tatters. The people of Acheh, Indonesia had lost loved ones, jobs, homes, schools, mosques and most of all they had lost hope. As 500,000 homes were destroyed and over 100,000 people killed in the Acheh/Sumatra region; this was definitely the hardest hit area of the Tsunami.
On March 26, 2005 new homes and renewed hope were given to them through the Village of Hope which was established by The Zakat Foundation along with local partners. This facility was designed not to be a temporary fix to a problem; but a real solution to the devastation.

The first phase of our relief work was healing the immediate pain. The Village of Hope constituted the first step in the second phase: recovery toward new life.
Within the village are 100 houses, 2 mosques, 3 sanitation facilities, 5 public kitchen stations, a clinic, orphanage and housing for the volunteers, teachers and administrators. The total cost of this facility was just under $170,000 and while it has been completed and is operating in a fantastic way; we still need your support to keep it running and pay for the teachers and administrators which keep it running. In addition to keeping this facility running, we need to expand its operations to include vocational training facilities.
